I can remember when we were growing up. Playing games through the night was a normal routine, especially on weekends. My friends and I stay in the room all night playing these games that we like. I can't do such nowadays because of responsibilities. How about you? Do you still play games throughout the night?

Yeah I know exactly what you mean 😂 those all-nighters used to be standard, especially on weekends. No worries, no schedule… just “one more game” over and over.

These days it’s a bit different, responsibilities catch up with you. I still try squeeze in a late session now and then, but nothing like it used to be.

Kind of miss those simpler gaming days though. What were you mainly playing back then?

Mortal Kombat got my friends and I awake all night. It was one of the best fighting games back in those days that we played all night while counting scores of who won the biggest duels. It was always a busy night for most of us back then. I used more of Scorpion and Blaze in most of my duels against my friends, and they always come tops for me.

I’d always end up losing to Scorpion. 😅 How did you and your friends decide who got which character? Was it strategy or just picking the ones you liked the most?

Last time was probably about two months ago. Was playing Elden Ring, told myself just one more boss and then suddenly it was 5am. Felt like death the next day but honestly no regrets. Some games just pull you in like that.

Probably six months ago. A Crusader Kings 3 campaign that got completely out of hand -- I told myself one more generation and then it was 3am and Femke was not impressed. It happens less often now, but some games have a particular way of making time disappear entirely.

Doom Eternal last month. Got to the final boss and there was no way I was stopping. Jordan was texting me around 2am asking if I was still going and yeah I was still going. Had a warehouse shift at 4am and it was rough.

Sons of the Forest got me a couple months back. Started playing at about 9pm thinking I'd get an hour in, then Damo jumped in the session and suddenly it was 3am. Bec came out to check if I was still alive. I was, technically.

Probably three months ago, Elden Ring. Told myself I'd try one more boss before bed and Derek kept walking past going 'you said that an hour ago.' He was right. Didn't sleep until nearly 3 and opened the store at 9 with a medium coffee and genuine regret.

The honest answer is probably Vampire: Bloodlines, which tells you something about where my priorities have sat for the last decade or so. I was in a flat with no central heating and staying up until 3am was almost practical. Nothing recent has pulled me in for that long. Not sure if that's the games or the fact that Ellie wakes up at 7 regardless.

There are games that can keep one glued to their seat, and Doom Eternal is one of such games. I can remember missing lunch the first day that I played the game because I was focused on going as far as I could in the game. About the final boss, did you find a way to beat him at the end of the day?
