I've seen people play games because a friend recommended it for them and all of that. However, I know that there might have been some funny reasons anyone decided to play a game? For you, which one tops the list?
 
Frankly, spite. Someone in an old forum thread described Gothic II as 'unplayable without a manual' in a tone suggesting that was a criticism rather than a selling point. I went in immediately. Still one of the best RPGs I've played, which I suppose proves their point in a different way.
 
Damo described Pacific Drive as 'only worth playing if you enjoy suffering' and then looked at me like that was going to put me off it. Ended up being one of my favourite sessions in months once you figure out what it wants from you. Cheers Damo.
 
Marcus kept sending me clips for about three months straight and every time I said I'd look at it later. Eventually I loaded Deep Rock Galactic just to stop getting the messages. Turns out he was right and I should have started it two months earlier. He never lets me forget it.

Knowing what a game wants from you means everything to a player. Pacific Drive demands patience, strategy and great skills before anyone can be able to enjoy playing the game. I'm sure Damo was happy you found your way around the game.
 
Someone left Stardew Valley running on a display machine at work. I stood there playing it for like twenty minutes before I noticed what I was doing. Downloaded it that night. Derek still brings it up whenever I try to act like I have taste.
 
A colleague recommended CK3 to me by describing it as 'basically a spreadsheet that occasionally murders your family'. I played six hours that evening. He was not wrong.
 
Jordan told me Sekiro would break me. Said it with that tone. Played it that night. Thirty-five hours in a week. Still think about Genichiro. Thanks Jordan.
 
Tyler and Jordan sounds exactly like me and Damo. Damo did the same thing with Green Hell -- said 'you'll hate this' with full confidence, which is the fastest way to get me to try anything. Quick one before I head in, have a good one everyone.
 
I played Dark Souls the first time because a colleague told me it was probably too hard for 'my type of gamer' and gestured in a way I found quietly insulting. I was not very good at it and I remain not very good at it. But I played forty hours of it that month, so I suppose the strategy worked. Being underestimated is apparently the most reliable way to get me to commit to something.
