Help Windows 11 keeps resetting my audio output to the wrong device

Every time I restart my PC, Windows 11 switches my default audio from my headset (HyperX Cloud II) back to my monitor speakers. Have tried setting it as default in both the old Sound settings and the new one. It sticks for a while then resets.

Anyone dealt with this before?

This drove me mad for weeks. The fix for me was going to Device Manager, right clicking the monitor audio device under Sound controllers, and choosing Disable. If you never use your monitor speakers there's no point having it enabled anyway.

Had the same issue. It was a Windows update that caused it. Check if there's a pending update and install it - Microsoft fixed it in a recent cumulative update.
