Elden Ring again. Running a bleed build this time, which I've never actually done properly. Jordan keeps trying to invade my world but his build is not it. Also still grinding Valorant ranked -- episode ends soon and I need Plat before it resets or I'm going to hear about it.
Mick Gordon absolutely cooked on that soundtrack. The way it syncs to the combat is not something most games even try to do. Doom 2016 specifically — every fight felt like the music was reacting to what you were doing. Hard to name many games that pull that off at that level.
Jedi: Survivor is slept on. People talked about it for two weeks and then just forgot it. The combat system is actually solid once you unlock a couple stances.
Sekiro. Dropped it twice before it finally clicked. The parry system is just completely different to everything else and the game punishes you for playing it like Dark Souls. Took me probably six hours to actually internalise the rhythm. After that it's the best combat in any game I've played.
Mine's always after a 4am warehouse shift. Get home, eat something, sit down with Apex -- out. Jordan sends me clips of my character just standing there getting killed. Not my finest gaming moments.
Never spent anything on a mobile game and I'm keeping that streak going. The whole model is designed to pull money out of you a couple dollars at a time until you've spent more than a full console title without realising it. At least on PC you know exactly what you're paying upfront.
Dell G2724D. 27 inch, 165Hz, IPS, 1ms. Goes on sale for about 220 regularly. Colours are decent for an IPS panel and the response times are solid for competitive play.
Doom: The Dark Ages for me if that counts as 2026. The art direction alone is something else. Every enemy looks like it was pulled from a heavy metal album cover and I mean that as a compliment. Combat feels different from Eternal but the visuals more than hold up.
GameStop was the move when I was a kid. Didn't even need to buy anything — spending an hour just looking at cases was part of the whole thing. Now it's all Steam and Humble Bundle when the deal's actually worth it. The stores are pretty much dead anyway round here.
Valorant ranked mostly. My rating has been slipping the last two weeks so I've basically been grinding that every night after work. Did a couple hours of MH Wilds earlier today but I can't focus on two games at once when ranked is going badly.
Just unlocked the new elder dragon last night. That fight is no joke — the attack patterns are way more aggressive than the base game elders. Took me four attempts to figure out the window to punish after the breath attack. Good update overall though, the arena design feels tighter than the last...
Jordan and I play Apex together most nights but that's not exactly chill — that's just yelling at each other for 90 minutes. Been thinking about picking up something lower stakes for when neither of us want to sweat.
Valheim looked decent for that. Anyone actually running a server for it here?
Nothing fancy. RTX 3070 I grabbed secondhand last year, Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB DDR4. 24 inch 144Hz 1080p monitor off Amazon. Cheap mechanical keyboard that I keep meaning to replace but it works fine. Does everything I need it to.
Honestly more interested in whether the trainer support keeps pace than what's releasing. The Apex and Valorant updates this season changed enough that the old approaches stopped working. If anything competitive-adjacent is coming Q2 that'd be the one to watch.
3600 is the sweet spot for Ryzen, specifically. The latency difference matters more than the raw MHz number and the benchmarks don't always show that. If the price gap is negligible just get the 3600. You'll regret going cheaper for no reason. DDR5 isn't worth it yet for most gaming setups — the...
