With successes recorded by It Takes Two, do you see developers focusing on making more quality co-op games?

Lukas mentioning Satisfactory is the right example. It works co-op because the building loop scales -- you're not both doing the same job, you're each covering different parts of something bigger. Apex is the same thing from the shooter side. When co-op actually works you stop noticing it...

    What's everyone getting into tonight?

Shift just ended. Jordan's already in a lobby so Apex it is. Maybe Elden Ring tomorrow when I've actually got more than an hour before I need to sleep.

What is the funniest reason you played a game?

Jordan told me Sekiro would break me. Said it with that tone. Played it that night. Thirty-five hours in a week. Still think about Genichiro. Thanks Jordan.

What game made you cry or affect you emotionally when you played it?

Corey's Subnautica point is real. That game hits different because nothing is attacking you for most of it, it's just the isolation. God of War 2018 got me too but someone already said that. Up at 4 for the warehouse so keeping this short.

Have you ever played a game that has a forest setting that looks like an actual forest?

Sekiro does this really well. The Ashina forests feel like they have actual depth, not just trees as background. Jedi Survivor too, some of those areas on Koboh look genuinely wild. RDR2 keeps coming up in this thread and it earns it every time.

What are you playing this week? - May 4 to May 10

Elden Ring this week. Still working through a second run trying to actually finish Ranni's questline properly instead of bricking it halfway through like last time. Jordan's been on Apex most nights so might switch back to that if he gets a squad going. Shift is at 4 tomorrow so keeping tonight...

With successes recorded by It Takes Two, do you see developers focusing on making more quality co-op games?

Apex with Jordan is probably my version of this. When co-op actually works you stop noticing it, you just notice you're having a good time. Games that build it in from the start are completely different from the ones that bolt it on. It Takes Two is in its own category though, that's not really...

What snacks do you like eating when gaming?

Nothing with too much grease -- learned that the hard way with a keyboard. Usually water, maybe pretzels if Jordan's over. Not really a snack person.

If you wake up one day with the power to make any game, what type of game would you make?

A competitive shooter built from the ground up around rank integrity. No SBMM that protects bad players forever, no cheater-friendly client architecture. Just clean servers and a ranked system that actually means something. Valorant gets closest but still has problems. Someone build that. Up at...

    What's everyone getting into tonight?

Just got back from class. Got a window before the 4am shift so might as well use it. Thinking Elden Ring or Apex depending on whether Jordan's on. Haven't decided yet.

What game made you cry or affect you emotionally when you played it?

God of War 2018. The ending got me. Between morning class and work this week so gaming time is limited but that one lingers. Didn't see it coming and that's rare.

Live service requirements on single-player games need to stop

Honestly slept on it for too long and then stayed up way too late once I started. That's the sign of a good game.

Do you enjoy replaying some parts of a single-player games?

God of War 2018 if you haven't. It holds up. Was playing it with Jordan a few weeks back and it still hits different.

Do you think the recent success of souls games like Elden Ring affected the RPG genre negatively?

Sekiro is still the peak for me. Elden Ring is great but Sekiro forces you to actually learn the combat. No summons, no cheese. Just get good or don't.

Doom: The Dark Ages drops in a few weeks — anyone else actually hyped?

Jordan's been counting down since the first trailer. I was skeptical at first — no wall-running felt like a weird choice — but the more footage I see the more I think they just went full brutal and deliberate instead of fast. Could work. Could flop. Pre-ordered it anyway. 4am warehouse shift...

Is spending money on mobile games a waste of money?

Warehouse shift at 4am so keeping it short but yeah, this is the right call.

Do you still grab games from the offline game shops?

Jumped back into Elden Ring last night. Jordan wanted to co-op some of the legacy dungeons. Still hits different every time.

News Where do you get latest gaming news?

Back from class, warehouse shift at 4am tomorrow so keeping it short tonight. Jumped on Apex for a bit with Jordan. Two wins, felt clean.

Discussion The XP and achievement system is a great touch

Just want to say the XP system and achievements are really well done. Gives you something to work towards beyond just posting. Seeing my rank go up is weirdly satisfying. The coin shop and style studio are nice additions too. Being able to customise your profile frame and badges makes the...

Anyone else falling behind on their backlog?

My backlog is completely unsalvageable. Still have Cyberpunk sitting untouched, Jedi: Survivor, a couple others I picked up on sale and never opened. Elden Ring keeps pulling me back every time I think I'm done with it. Jordan's in the same situation so we just don't talk about it.
